Dear Friends, I love the freshness that a new year brings. I will complete my yearly bible reading plan tomorrow morning which is always a fun thing to put the final check on the page noting completion. I have been reviewing my godly desires for this past year and am making plans for 2010 as I type this morning. The excitement and joy of coming to the close of a year and looking out over the landscape of a fresh new 365 days God is putting in front of me is exhilarating. I have learned over the course of years now not to make resolutions for the upcoming year. They are doomed to fail. I laughed when a health club member told me that he does not like to go to the club during January because all those who made resolutions to lose weight are there, but come Feb. the numbers are down again to the faithful regulars and he'll return, ha. That is so true, and unfortunately I have been one of those I am afraid. Friends, I have learned that the best thing we can do is follow the Apostle Paul's advice found in 1 Tim. 4:7b, "Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness." That simple but hard to live out thought carries with it a "daily choice" that must be made. A choice today and each day we live, to make sure our speech, thought life, and character are brought into conformity to His will and desire for each of us as Christ followers. There are some areas that I am choosing to work on in 2010 to enhance the truth of this text, and daily I plan to check this as I move forward through the freshness of not only a new year but each new day the Lord sets before me. Friends, the older I get the more I am realizing the beauty of His presence, what He has done for me and the glory that awaits me in Heaven. He is so worthy of each of us as Christ followers to live a life pleasing to Him in all facets of our being! Have a great, fresh start to the New Year my friends. It is a joy traveling down this road of life with you. May each of us be found "Faithful to the task He has set before us and Obedient to the call of God on our lives" to be living examples for Him in the World we live in. Happy New Year, Pastor Doug |
